I am off to The Shetlands on my QEST scholarship to work with Rod Kelly and three other silversmiths for two weeks.

Bishopsland Retrospective 2013

This year I will have a selection of work on display at Bishopsland, a specialist training workshop in Reading, where I studied for a year in 2008, after leaving university.  This year Bishopsland are celebrating their 20 years and tonight (Wednesday 7th) Amanda Game, curator and modern silver specialist, will open the exhibition and sale from 6 - 8.30pm.  If you are interested in attending either the preview or the events over the weekend; the exhibition, demonstrations by current gang members and the prize giving please contact me or Oliver Makower directly via email or telephone (on invitation above).

This prestigious fair, now in its fourth year at the Saatchi Gallery, London, presents 31 of the world’s finest international galleries representing exceptional work of museum quality from their portfolio of artists."

I will be represented by 'Bishopsland' alongside 11 other makers. The theme of our presentation is to display the depth & diversity of the silversmith’s craft. The emphasis is on the skills of the craftsman in raising, forming, enamelling, engraving and chasing, both in structure and in ornamentation. Curated by the Harley Gallery under the direction of Director Lisa Gee and Gallery Manager Susan Sherrit.

The show will be open to the public from 11th May - Monday 14th May with the Private View on Thursday 10th 2012.

New Year

January and the New Year is here. What is in store for me.
Well, First off I must dig myself out of the snow so that I can make it to the workshop and shake off the cold, grab a cup of tea and settle in to things.
I have heard great news - I have been awarded sponsorship from Cooksons to take part in British Silver Week 2010 so I shall start with preparations and new work for this. The theme is summer time, difficult to think about that when it's -4 outside, but i shall light a fire and get to work!
Next up, where will I work - well I hope to continue my hammering in Zilverstad, Holland in the beautiful Watertoren. I am in persuit of some funding from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust to do this. The funding would offer such a opportunity to me. I have designs and concepts that I REALLY want to explore if the funding is successful and until I hear I can't tell you what the new work is about, so keep your fingers crossed.
Next, The show that has been housed in the V&A, Whiteley Galleries since July, displaying my piece Bert (known by the V&A as Hector) - Contemporary Silver -The Bishopsland Fellowship 1979 - 2009 will be moving to the Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh in February. (details to follow)
